I have been using biofeedback in my practice for the past 35 years. Biofeedback in its simplest form is very much like a mirror—with immediate physiological (body) feedback one learns how to regulate one’s reactions. This training is very useful in learning self-regulation skills. Biofeedback training is helpful in managing and reducing stress-related disorders (over-arousal), depression (under-arousal), and attention difficulties. Biofeedback training helps to increase one’s awareness and control over mind/body interactions. In my practice, biofeedback training is always done from a self-regulation perspective. I am a Senior Fellow with the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. I have been certified since 1988 and have attended numerous continuing education courses over the years. I have also been an active member of The Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback since the early 1980s.

Over the past 35 years I have used a number of different biofeedback approaches. Currently I find working with HeartRateVariability Training (HRV), Neurofeedback, and  HemoEncephaloGraphy (HEG) to be very helpful.

HeartRate Variability Training (HRV) gives one immediate information about the heart’s rhythm and how this rhythm affects our stress levels and attention. For more information on HRV, please check the resources page.

Neurofeedback / EEG or Brainwave Biofeedback is another tool I use in my practice. Brainwave Biofeedback gives the brain direct information about how it is functioning. Since Brainwave Biofeedback helps the brain to be more efficient, it is helpful with a wide range of difficulties. It is very helpful in learning self-regulation of the central nervous system.
